Frozen Yogurt Fail

Justin bought me an ice cream maker for Christmas. I've been dying to try it out, so Monday I got it out and put the bowl in the freezer (at about 1:30pm). It was supposed to take anywhere from 6-22 hours to freeze. This was  my first mistake: trying to rush it. We wanted it to be ready that evening. I poured all the ice from our ice bucket into the bowl, thinking it would speed things along. That was my second mistake: the ice. After we had a nice delicious dinner with Abby and Troy, I made the base for "Coffee Latte Frozen Yogurt." It was a mixture of milk, plain gelatin, and sugar... all heated together. Then that mixture had to cool. This was my third mistake: letting it cool in the fridge. Really though, I only made one mistake... Everything I did wrong stemmed from trying to make the process faster. I have made this mistake in the past, and thought I had learned, but apparently not. Instead of just cooling, the mixture chilled and the gelatin turned into... gelatin. This did not mix well with the yogurt/half-and-half combination. So that went weird. Then I pulled out the freezer bowl and the ice had melted and fused itself to the sides and bottom of the bowl. Had to use hot water to get it out, thus undoing all the "freezing" the bowl had just gone though. Tried about an hour later to go ahead and mix the concoction in half-frozen bowl, but it just turned into a nasty mixture of weird coffee flavored gelatinous bits and yogurt. I threw it in a bowl and stuck it in the back of the freezer. Needless to say, it was not served. It was awful. Pulled it out today and tried a small bowl. Edible, but awful still.

So what did I learn?
Do not...ever...rush. No good comes from it.
